A PRACTICAL CARPET SELECTION GUIDE

How to Choose Carpet for Your Home

Start with how the room is used, then compare the exact carpet and padding together. A useful decision balances appearance, feel, care requirements and the full project scope—not just a color sample or one price.

It Is Finished Flooring helps Tampa Bay customers compare carpet products, request samples, arrange measurements and plan professional installation.

1. Begin with the room, not the product name.

List the rooms you want to change and what matters in each one. A bedroom, stairway, home office and shared living area may raise different selection questions.

Tell the flooring expert about everyday traffic, pets, furniture, preferred feel underfoot and the care routine you want to follow. Describe your actual household rather than choosing from a general pet-friendly or high-traffic label alone.

2. Compare construction and texture in person.

Cut-pile carpet has cut yarn ends; loop-pile carpet keeps the loops intact. Cut-and-loop styles combine both to create texture or pattern.

Compare the actual samples for appearance, feel and suitability for the intended room. Ask about the exact product's fiber, construction, pile and care documentation. One specification or a soft sample does not answer every selection question.

3. Read the product information behind the label.

Keep the precise brand, style and color alongside the written specifications, installation instructions, care guidance and applicable warranty.

Fiber, construction and any treatments should be considered together. Ask what the manufacturer says about your intended use, including stairs, pets or heavier traffic. Do not treat one product's claim as a promise about every carpet from the same brand.

Carpet brands carried include Mohawk, Godfrey Hirst, Dreamweaver, Shaw, Dixie. Current lines, samples and availability are confirmed during consultation. Explore Products & Brands.

4. Choose padding with the carpet.

Padding should match the selected carpet and its manufacturer's requirements. Ask which cushion type, thickness and density are permitted for that product and the rooms involved.

Do not automatically select the thickest or softest pad. If you already have padding, ask whether it is suitable for reuse or needs replacing and how that decision appears in the quote. Its condition and the exact carpet requirements need review.

5. See the sample against the actual room.

Compare samples near walls, furniture and adjoining flooring, and view them in the room's lighting. Notice how color and texture relate to surfaces you plan to keep.

Request the Mobile Showroom for samples brought to your home or project location, or request a visit to the Tampa showroom. Robert contacts you to confirm the date, time and visit details. Neither option is booked automatically.

Request the Mobile Showroom or request a showroom visit. Our only showroom is at 920 E 124th Ave Unit B, Tampa, FL 33612.

6. Let measurements guide the material and layout.

Approximate square footage starts the conversation; the team measures the actual project area to prepare a project-specific quote. Identify adjoining floors, doorways, stairs and known access or floor-condition concerns.

Ask how the proposed layout handles seams, patterns and transitions. Room shape and the selected carpet matter, so the final material quantity should not be assumed to equal a rough room-area calculation.

7. Compare the complete written scope.

Before comparing totals, check that quotes describe the same carpet, padding, measured area and work. Material price alone does not describe the full replacement project.

Clarify carpet and padding, quantity and layout, existing-floor removal, furniture responsibilities, preparation, stairs, transitions, installation, disposal and cleanup. These are potential planning items, not a statement that every service is included. Ask what is included, what needs separate agreement and how newly discovered conditions would be discussed.

8. Confirm care, warranty and timing before deciding.

Review the selected carpet's written care guidance and warranty, and keep its product and purchase details. Carpet coverage varies by manufacturer and product.

The site's select LVP/laminate warranty does not establish carpet warranty coverage. Ask about the exact carpet and installation. Share your desired completion timeframe, then wait for the team to confirm a plan after availability, measurements, preparation and access are reviewed.

COMMON SELECTION QUESTIONS

Prepare for your carpet conversation.

Use these questions to compare products and define a project-specific quote.

What carpet is best for my home?

The answer depends on the rooms, everyday use, feel, appearance and care preferences. Compare specific products and their documentation instead of assuming one fiber or style suits every home.

Can I choose carpet from a photograph?

A photograph can help narrow the style. Compare a current sample in the room before making the final selection, particularly beside furnishings and flooring that will remain.

Is new padding always included?

Do not assume it is. Ask which padding is specified and whether its supply, removal and installation are included in your written quote.

Can I request carpet without exact square footage?

Yes. Choose the closest approximate size or Not sure in the estimate form and describe the rooms. Measurements help prepare the project-specific quote.

Can I request carpet samples at home?

Yes. Use the existing Mobile Showroom appointment-request option. The requested date and time remain preferences until Robert confirms the visit.

How do I compare two carpet quotes?

Check the exact carpet and padding, measured scope, proposed layout and included work. Ask about differences in removal, preparation, stairs, furniture, disposal and finishing before comparing the totals.
