Understand what you are comparing
An engineered-hardwood product combines a real-wood surface with a layered construction. Solid hardwood uses solid wood through the board. Those construction labels are a starting point, not a complete statement of suitability, installation method or future refinishing options. Review the exact product specification before deciding.
For a Florida project, start with the room, subfloor and conditions the flooring will encounter. A category comparison cannot replace checking whether the selected product is approved for the actual location and installation system.
Check conditions before choosing a method
Shaw's hardwood installation guidance treats environmental conditions, subfloor suitability and product-specific installation instructions as essential planning inputs. Use the selected product's current instructions for the required testing and installation conditions. Do not rely on a generic acclimation period or assume every wood product accepts the same method.
Tell the installer about the rooms involved and any known moisture events before purchasing. Ask which conditions will be checked, which findings could affect the plan and how changes to the scope will be handled. Calling a product engineered does not make the entire installed floor or room waterproof.
Compare appearance, care and future expectations
Look at the species, finish, color, board dimensions and texture of actual samples. Ask for the care instructions and written warranty for each finalist. If future refinishing matters to you, obtain a product-specific answer rather than assuming that every solid or engineered board can be treated the same way.
Compare the complete project, including the selected installation system, preparation and transitions. Put those details alongside the material specification when evaluating estimates. A general category price is less useful than a clear quote for the product and rooms you have chosen.
Review the current engineered-hardwood offering
Our Products page includes engineered-hardwood selections. Use that information to start a discussion about the look you want and the conditions of your project. This comparison explains two flooring constructions and does not represent every product discussed as current store inventory.
Request an estimate or arrange a Tampa showroom appointment to review current selections and project requirements. Ask for the exact product documents before making a final choice.
